Besides sate lokan (seashell satay), there is another culinary of Pesisir Selatan District, is gulai lauak karang (reef fish curry). Reef fish is a kind of sea fish that are found in the rocks on the edge of the sea, such as kerapu (grouper) and kakap (snapper). The flesh is softer than other fish, which make it taste so much better.

However, to get this fish is quite difficult. Moreover ecosystem more are in the sea rocks. Natural conditions such as these can be found in some coastal areas in the Pesisir Selatan District. No wonder the reef fish served as gulai lauak karang generally are freshly obtained from the sea.

Because of the difficulty of getting reef fish, so natural that it is more expensive compared to other fish. A serving of gulai lauak karang could reach Rp 50,000. However, the price is certainly comparable to this fish delicacy. A serving of gulai lauak karang can usually be eaten for 2-3 people.

Gulai lauak karang with thick gravy typical Minang culinary yellow it will taste delicious when eaten at the stall that stands on the seafront. Some of these stalls can be found along the Pesisir Selatan District, as in the Batang Kapas and Lengayang.

One of the stalls selling the famous gulai lauak karang in the Pesisir Selatan District is Tapi Lawik Restaurant in Lengayang. The location is not far from the Pasir Putih Beach. Here, we can enjoy a gulai lauak karang looking panoramic sea corals off. This culinary of Pesisir Selatan District must try, especially taste reef fish head which was very tasty.
